Applying to HLA

Applications are accepted once annually during the spring (April/May) for program admission the next fall. The next application period will be Summer 2024 (for program entry Fall 2025).

Requirements to Apply:

  • Applicants must be 18 years or older by September 1, 2024.
  • Applicants must be enrolled full-time at The University of Texas at Austin or Huston-Tillotson University.
    • UT graduate/post graduate students are eligible, as long as they will be enrolled full-time or have some other formal association with UT during the Fall 2024 Semester.
    • Students may have recently graduated from UT or HT; however, in this case, they need to have graduated from UT or HT Spring 2024.
  • Applicants must have completed at least one-year of undergraduate coursework by September 1, 2024. Students who are rising Sophomores now are eligible to apply.

Information about the Application Process:

  • When the application period opens, a link is provided on this page to access the application.
  • Students are not required to provide a resume or transcript and they do not have to complete an interview. Only a few application questions determine admission.
  • Applicants’ responses are reviewed and rated by 80-100 reviewers (on average) through a blind and random process to minimize bias.
  • Students are notified of acceptance by email before the beginning of the Fall semester.

  • The 2023-2024 HLA application results were sent via email on 08/17/2023.
